Account Creation
You will need to create a myColorado™ account to generate your Colorado Digital ID™ and take advantage of the full state services available in the app. We take security very seriously, and for that reason, myColorado employs the highest security standards to verify the identity of users.
Things to Know
Colorado residents will need a valid Colorado driver license or state-issued identification card, email address and the last four digits of their Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to create their Digital ID.*
If you do not have a SSN or ITIN, you will not be able to validate your Digital ID. The ability to create a Digital ID without an SSN or ITIN is planned for a future release of the app.
Motorcycle-only licenses cannot be used to create a myColorado account.
Newly-issued driver licenses and state-issued IDs can take up to four business days to be thoroughly processed and available within myColorado. During that time, you may not be able to complete the necessary facial recognition to set up your myColorado account.
*H-1B VISA holders can create a myColorado account while their spouses or dependents holding H4 VISAs cannot due to non-citizenship.

Account Creation FAQs
Can I use a paper driver license or ID from the DMV to create a myColorado account?
Yes. Scan the barcode of your paper identification to create a myColorado account and access your Colorado Digital IDTM. For more information, see the DMV article addressing this topic.
Can I create a myColorado account using a commercial driver license (CDL)?
Yes. myColorado will show the status of the highest driving privilege on your license. In the case of a CDL, it will display the commercial license privilege.
I am trying to change my address in my profile. Why do I get an error saying it is not a valid address?
Unfortunately, the physical address you entered in your myColorado profile does not match an address in the US Postal Service database. For this reason, the system was unable to update your address. We are working on functionality that will allow you to overwrite your physical address in the profile, which will be available in a future release.
I have a new phone number. How do I change it in the app?
To update your phone number, please open the app (with or without logging in) and tap the blue question mark in the upper right corner of the screen.
Tap Submit Customer Support Request. Complete the form and provide details to let us know that you need to change your phone number and indicate your email, old phone number and new phone number.
If I make a change to my profile information in the More tab, will it be reflected in my Digital ID?
Changes you make to your profile in the More tab will not be reflected in your Digital ID. However, if you make changes to your profile information during the driver license renewal process, those changes will be uploaded to the DMV database and will be reflected in both your Digital ID and your physical driver license.
How do I update my contact method for multi-factor authentication (MFA) or the registration method I added when creating my account?
You can update your contact method for multi-factor authentication (MFA) at any time under the More tab. You’ll need your myColorado username and password, so make note of that before you begin.
Open the myColorado app.
Tap More in the bottom right corner.
Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap Update Verification Code Method.
A login screen will appear. Log in with your myColorado username and password.
Make sure the Multi-factor Authentication toggle is on (green).
Tap Add Method and select the authentication method you want to pair with your account (e.g., text message, email, etc.).
Enter the contact method you wish to use to receive authentication codes.
Tap Next and a code will be sent to that method for verification.
Enter the code you received and tap Finish to complete the process.
Remove any other contact methods listed (e.g., other phone numbers, email addresses), even if they look correct. This will ensure the system is using the most updated contact method of your choosing.
Troubleshooting Tips
Why won't the app accept my selfie?
The most common facial recognition issues are:
Occasionally, newly-issued licenses, can take up to four business days to become available in myColorado.
Poor lighting, out-of-focus selfie or cluttered background.
Tips: Take your selfie against a clean, white background in a well-lit room, making sure your face is in focus and evenly lit without shadows.
If you try three times and the selfie authentication does not work, we have found that sometimes deleting the app and reinstalling will work. You will be able to use the account you already created.
Note: If your driver license or ID photo is more than five years old, you may need to update your license/ID at the DMV as the older image quality may be difficult to match and verify identity.
I forgot my username but there's no Forgot Username button on the login screen.
You can reset your username from the app login screen. Tap Log In on the home screen, then tap Forgot Username. On the Username Recovery screen, enter your driver license or state-issued ID number and email address and tap Send Request.
How do I reset my password?
If you forgot your password, you can reset your password from the app login screen by tapping Forgot Password. Then, enter your myColorado username and tap Submit. You will receive an emailed a verification code to authenticate your password reset request. This code is NOT your password.
On the password reset screen, enter the verification code in the first field labeled Recovery Code and enter your new password in the two fields below. Then, tap Save.
I renewed or received a new driver license or state-issued identification card but I cannot see my credentials update in the app.
Wait up to four business days for the app to retrieve the information provided by the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If after four business days you still do not see your driver license, please contact the DMV at 303.205.5600, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
